The Melbourne Zoo is a great Victorian tourist attraction.

Butterfly House - walk around the large enclosure and if you are lucky one will land on you. Don't forget to have a look at the insect display just after you leave.
Elephants - when we vsiited in 2010 there was a baby elephant Mali, only a few moths old. We had to contend with huge crowds wanting to see her, but it was worth it.
Orang-utan Sanctuary - get up close and personal at this display.
Seals - a great display where you can view them playing above and below the waterline
