The Cheetah is ranked number one on the list of the World's Fastest (Land Based) Animals and Fastest Mammals.
In 2009, the Cincinnati Zoo's 8 year-old female cheetah became the world's fastest of all land mammals. Sarah covered 100m in a time of 6.13 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 6.19 seconds set by a male South African cheetah named Nyana in 2001. That's an average about 36.5 mph and a top speed of about 70 mph near the end of the run. The Cheetah is definitely made for speed.
