Western Australia, Australia

Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. It is considered the most isolated city in the world. It is a large but slow and pretty city on the Swan River and by the ocean. Because of its mild winter and hot summer, it is a good place to visit all year round. Perth is Clare's home town, and Rob also lived here for over 10 years.

Top 10 Places to See and Things to Do

  1. Go to the Beach: Cottesloe and City Beach are our favourites. Beautiful sunsets and clean white sand. Don't expect great surf though. You would have to head south to Margaret River way for that.
  2. Visit Fremantle: great port city of pubs and shopping, and the famous Fremantle Markets
  3. Visit Kings Park: a great place to get an overview of the city and have a picnic. Enjoy the view of the city both during the day and at night.
  4. Explore the city: there are free CAT buses which loop around the city centre (and around Fremantle too), which is great for hopping on and off while exploring these areas.
  5. Eat out in Northbridge: the place to go for its cafe strip and high density of pubs.
  6. Visit some Great pubs: such as the Queens and Cottesloe (the Cott). The Sunday sessions are the best in Australia - enjoy a drink in a beer garden on a Sunday afternoon after spending the day at the beach.
  7. Visit Perth Zoo - a well stocked and set out modern zoo just across the river in South Perth.
  8. Explore the Swan Valley.
  9. Take a ferry to Rottnest Island
  10. Go walking in the Hills
