Why Go:
- See the beautiful well-maintained convict era bridge, the second oldest in Australia (after Richmond Bridge).
Highlights:
- Ross Bridge: Spanning the Macquarie River is this historic convict built bridge with unique sculture carvings.
- Ross Female Factory: These buildings were erected in 1833 to house the chain gangs that helped build Ross Bridge. It was later used as a probation station for female convicts and their babies. The factory was closed in 1854 when transportation stopped.
- Tasmanian Wool Centre: learn the story of wool, and its significance to the development of this area. Also in this building is the visitor information, with a very good display about the history of this town.
