Marysville is located 95 km from Melbourne, within the heavily forested mountains of the Great Dividing Range, a short drive off the Maroondah Highway between Healesville and Alexandra.

A nice day trip from Melbourne
Highlights:
- Snow: see some some close to Melbourne at Lake Mountain, a short drive from Marysville
- Steavenson Falls: this beautiful large waterfall is a 4 km hike from town or you can drive right up to it. At night it is lit up.
- Hike: the are numerous hikes in the lush bush land surrounding Marysville
- Fishing: the river is OK for fishing, though there are a couple of trout farms nearby where you can pay to fish and keep your catch
- Bruno's Art and Sculpture Garden: a local artist has made an interesting exhibition of his sculptures which you can pay to see.
Lowlights:
- the town of Marysville is not that exciting, developed mainly for tourists
Eating & Drinking:
- there is a pub and a couple of cafes for eating and drinking out
- a supermarket for food supplies
Other things you should know about:
- The tourist Information Centre is located on the main street, and is a good source of information about what you can do around here.
- The Gunni is a legendary and mythical animal that is said to once be found around this area. It looks like a wombat with horns, and you can read about it and see one stuffed at the Info Centre.
- The name Marysville is in honour of the wife Mary of Mr John Steavenson who was Assistant Commissioner of Roads and Bridges who moved into the area in 1864 to oversee the work of his surveyors.
