- You may notice that Queenscliff is sometimes spelt with an 'e' on the end. The difference in the spelling represents the town and the borough. The name of the township 'Queenscliff' was first gazetted in June of 1853. The 'Borough of Queenscliffe' was formed in May 1863 and in fact is the proper name for the incorporated body which represents the district of the Borough of Queenscliffe which includes the towns of Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale. Nowadays, when people use 'Queenscliffe' they are generally referring to both Queenscliff & Point Lonsdale.
- Queenscliff was given the name "Queen of the watering places" during the 1880s when paddle steamers brought weekenders from Melbourne.
