Why Go:
The You Yangs is a Regional Park, a small island of natural beauty amongst the surrounding farmland.
Highlights:
- walking / hiking: there are several well marked tracks ranging from short 10 minute hikes to several hours. You can walk to the highest point, Flinders Peak, taking an hour return, for great views of the surrounding countryside.
- mountain biking: two areas of the park have been put away for mountain biking
- picnic / bbq: enjoy the tranquility with a self-catered meal amongst the nature and wildlife
- wildlife watching: we stumbled across a friendly koala. There is lots of wildlife to be seen, and hundreds of different bird species for the birdwatcher.

- hot and dry in summer
Eating & Drinking:
- free gas bbqs, and wooden bbqs (bring your own wood)
- there is no drinking water available, so make sure you bring your own
Other things you should know about:
- Getting to the park, the drive from the Geelong-Melbourne Freeway is clearly signposted via the nearby townships of Little River or Lara.
- From the park entrance the sealed Turntable Drive (one way traffic) leads to many of the main picnic areas.
- From the sky above, and from the Flinders Peak walking track, you can view a sculpture created out of rocks - the Bunjil - in the form of a large wedge-tailed eagle.
- The park is open from 8 am to 4.30 pm all year round, with longer hours during weekends and during daylight savings.
