Go to the Perth Zoo
Go to the Beach: Cottesloe and City Beach are our favourites. Beautiful sunsets and clean white sand. Don't expect great surf though. You would have to head south to Margaret River way for that. A BBQ at Floreat Beach recommended
Visit Fremantle: great port city of pubs and shopping, and the famous Fremantle Markets. Little Creatures brewery - family friendly by day and a great place for a drink in the evening and highly recommended. There is the traditional freo markets (Fri/Sat/Sun), and also a new market on Thursdays: http://www.enjoyperth.com.au/events/freo-village-market--7. Historic sites the Round house and Prison are worthwhile. You can go on a Fremantle Gaol Tour
Visit Kings Park: a great place to get an overview of the city and have a picnic. Enjoy the view of the city both during the day and at night. There is a newly opened play/explore area (naturescape) and there are a few other places in the park you can go for coffee while the kids play.
Swan River: go cycling or walking along some of the extensive bike trails along the river. Matilda bay and Heathcote reserve have some great views. Take a Scenic River Cruise along the Swan River, or just the ferry to South Perth
Explore the city: there are free CAT buses which loop around the city centre (and around Fremantle too), which is great for hopping on and off while exploring these areas. Visit the art gallery and museum, Bell Tower along the esplanade, the Mint, Cathedral. On Friday night Twilight Food Markets in summer.
Picnic at Whiteman Park or Araluen Park
Eat out in Northbridge: the place to go for its cafe strip and high density of pubs.
Visit some Great pubs: such as the Queens and Cottesloe (the Cott). The Sunday sessions are the best in Australia - enjoy a drink in a beer garden on a Sunday afternoon after spending the day at the beach.

Swan Valley - wineries not far from Perth.
Outdoor cinemas: in summertime there are a few places to enjoy movive under the stars: Sommerville Perth festival, Kings Park Moonlight cinema, plus a few others around town e.g., luna outdoor
Penguin Island is a short distance south of Perth.
AQWA - aquarium
Rottnest Island - for the transport cost, it is ideal to go across and stay for a few days to make the most of it.
Just out of town: Lake Leschenaultia (canoeing) and Yanchep (bush walk, koalas)
