[ traveling with kids | more travel advice ]
Traveling with kids does not need to be the nightmare that many think it will be. Here are just a few tips based on our experience traveling with young children.
In the Car
- Leave books and toys within easy reach
- Play sing-alongs
- Play travel games
- Take a portable DVD player

Flights
- Request a baby seat if needed.
- The flight attendants can help by warming up milk bottles
- Take lots of activities and snacks to keep them occupied
- Use headphones for their dvd player or games so you don't disturb other passengers.
- Give the kids a sweet or dummy to suck on when the plane is ascending or descending.
Food Safety
- If you are breast feeding it is much healthier, food safe and easier than preparing food all the time.
- If you are camping or van, a good fridge is great to keep the food fresh.
- Eating overseas we just practice safe eating practices, in countries with poor quality tap water we do not wash food in the water and buy fruit you can peel. We don't go overboard, as experiencing the local food is a big reason why we travel.
Health
- When we travel overseas, we make sure we have the recommended vaccinations They don't give some vaccinations to babies, though they have their regular childhood immunization which covers a lot.
- You should be prepared for and accept that the kids may get some sickness. You can't stop kids crawling around and picking things up from the floor, and their immune system is still developing.
