Getting There and away

Jet Engine from airplane windowTaxi: One of the most effecient and convienient ways of getting away from the airport. Follow the taxi signs and join the line. Fares to anywhere in Manhattan are fixed and tolls and tips are not included. Returning to JFK you will have to take a metered taxi. It takes about 40-60 minutes to get downtown, depending on the time of day.

Private Cars & Limos: For a bit more fun and glamour, you could organise a pick-up before you go. Prices are usually fixed and a bit higher than standard taxis.

Public Transport: If you don't have much luggage and are on a budget, it may be worth trying the MTA (Metropolitian Transportation Authority), and be prepared to make a chnage or two. The JFK airtrain links to subway and buses.

Private Buses and Shuttles: The New York Airport Service runs a regular bus into central Manhattan
